NavajoStrong was created to empower and aid the Navajo Community during the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis. Our goal is to empower the Diné people against disease, poverty, and other health disparities.
In April of 2020, I was closely following the COVID-19 pandemic as it devastated and shut down country after country. As a healthcare worker, a former ICU nurse, I began to worry about our healthcare system being overrun by this disease. The stories of running out of ventilators, staff falling ill, and the highly contagious nature of COVID-19 devastated me.
Then I found out I had lost family members to the disease on the Navajo reservation. I made the decision in my mind to help my family members as much as I could. The plan was to collect and purchase supplies then take the supplies to families in the Navajo Community.
Before I made my first trip, I was featured on the news. The response from that story brought in more volunteers, supplies, and monetary donations from all over the United States.
We collected and delivered critical supplies: firewood, food, water, cleaning supplies, toiletries, paper towels, masks, dog food, baby wipes, diapers, shovels, brooms, axes, and more.
The best part? The donations and supplies go straight to the family in need.
